Pakistan's worst climate-induced disaster in years continues to devastate countless as people struggle to find food and shelter amid floods. With its biggest lake, Manchar, bursting its banks, the rescue teams there are racing to evacuate people.
In the middle of this, a rather bizarre video supposedly from Pakistan has started doing the rounds on social media. In the 30-second video, a bulldozer appears to be scooping water from a flooded street and pouring it into a truck. The water, however, continuously drips from the truck. Voices can be heard in the background, laughing at this seemingly unusual activity.
The text in the video reads, “Heavy rain in Pakistan. City is flooded. They are removing water using the latest technology. The whole world is stunned seeing this technology."
Those sharing the video mocked Pakistan’s supposed attempts to mitigate the devastation caused by the floods. Archives of these posts can be found here and here.
AFWA has found that this video is neither recent nor of Pakistan. It has been on the internet since at least 2018.
A reverse search of the keyframes of this video led us to Russian news portals that stated the video was from November 2018 and was shot in Baghdad, Iraq.
We also found the same video tweeted by Al Jazeera Mubasher correspondent Abdulaziz Mujahed on November 28, 2018.

While the tweet stated that the video was from Baghdad, Mujahed later followed up with another tweet stating that some of his followers suggested that it was from Ahvaz, a city in Iran. The comments on this tweet also suggested that in the video, the bulldozer wasn’t scooping up water, it was removing mud and debris.
We searched for “Ahvaz flood” along with frames from the video and landed on the YouTube channel of Ava News, which also suggested that the video was from Ahvaz.
As per news reports, heavy rains caused floods in parts of both Iran and Iraq in November 2018.
So, while AFWA was not able to verify if it was shot in Iran or Iraq, this 2018 video definitely does not show the recent floods in Pakistan.
