Case New Holland has announced it intends to cease production of bulldozers and headers at its Burlington plant.

Production of those machines will be moved to other CNH Industrial facilities outside of the U.S., though the location of those facilities has not been released. The company has manufacturing plants in Europe, Middle and South America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, as well as North America and Australia.

The Burlington plant will continue production of backhoes, tractor loaders and rough terrain forklifts.

"This move is intended to optimize our global manufacturing operations," the company said in a statement. "Upon completion, the manufacturing process in Burlington will become more streamlined and the facility will be transformed into a North American Manufacturing Center of Excellence for backhoes, tractor loaders and rough terrain forklifts."

The specifics of the production change have yet to be determined as Case is still in the process of decisional bargaining with United Auto Workers Local 807, which represents hourly employees at the Burlington plant. UAW Local 807 was contacted about the change July 1.

A representative for the union told The Hawk Eye more will be known about the changes in the coming weeks.

It is unclear whether the discontinuation of bulldozer and header production at the Des Moines Avenue facility will result in fewer jobs or a reallocation of labor. The addition of bulldozer production at the plant in 2015 largely was accommodated by moving workers to different lines.

CNH in Burlington, which first began producing equipment in 1937, has been manufacturing backhoes for 64 years, beginning with the 320 Construction King in 1957. Since then, Case has released numerous other models.
